Spice up your night with burlesque

Whether you’re planning a hens night, a birthday party or a corporate retreat, a burlesque dance workshop could be just the thing to make your event stand out! An opportunity for fancy dress, an easy icebreaker and a guaranteed recipe for giggles all in one, this vintage dance style is always a crowd pleaser. And if you think that burlesque is all about sitting back and watching, then think again. Discover  your inner Dita Von Teese and get involved to make your event a night to remember:

Break The Ice!

There’s nothing quite like a fun dance workshop to get your guests out of their seats and laughing (and blushing) together.  Kick off with icebreaker games and be guided through the essential moves before showcasing your new skills in a cheeky routine.  Not a dancer?  Not a problem!  You’ll find that burlesque routines are created for all experience levels and everyone can join in – even your Aunt and Grandma!  If you’re planning on a big night of mischief and shenanigans, it’s the perfect warm up but also works as a memorable standalone event.

It’s All About You!

It’s all about you when it comes to burlesque!  Choose your favourite song, or pick a popular theme such as Burlesque, Bellydance Goddess, pop on your legwarmers for Totally 80’s, your best flapper dress for Great Gatsby Gals or unleash your inner Beyoncé with All The Single Ladies!  The possibilities are endless!  The moves can be as family friendly or as risqué and saucy as desired, so it’s a great chance to explore your flirty side without revealing too much.

As an added extra, consider breaking out your moves together afterwards.  If you’re on the dancefloor, at a conference or at a wedding, it’s sure to get the party started!

But First, Let’s Take A Selfie!

Everyone loves a dress-up photo! So why not choose a theme and get all your guests to dress up accordingly or surprise your guest of honour with a costume to change into on the night!  Get wild and creative, the more extravagant the idea, the more memorable it will be. Your celebration will have an instant theme and you’ll have lots of opportunities for group photos and selfies.  Ask your hostess to take a group photo for you so you can all fit in together. Very hashtag worthy!

Burlesque dance workshops are an ideal way to instantly create a fun, quirky inclusive vibe for your event, guaranteed to create memories and laughs long after the night is over!

BrisAsia Festival

7 Feb, 2016 – 21 Feb, 2016 @ Eagle Lane, Brisbane City

Explore Brisbane’s laneways with Weaving Our Heritage a visual street art installation which will transform Eagle Lane in Brisbane’s CBD into an outdoor gallery. Weaving our Heritage will be on show from 7-21 February, accessible day and night, and is a vibrant burst of colour and pattern in the heart of Brisbane’s business district.

This free event is part of the annual BrisAsia Festival which celebrates the best of Asian art and culture throughout February. The installation features two Brisbane artists inspired by contemporary culture and Asian textile and decorative traditions.

Vanghoua Anthony Vue’s work draws on his Hmong heritage through the use of vibrant industrial tape works, and Elysha Rei (Gould) makes intricate paper-cuts and paste-ups that allude to her Japanese ancestry.

Robyn Stacey Cloudland

Cloudland 18 Sep, 2015 – 3 Apr, 2016 @ Museum of Brisbane.

Robyn Stacey is one of Australia’s pre-eminent contemporary photographers. Her new body of work for Museum of Brisbane reveals some of our city’s most familiar places, buildings and landmarks in a completely new way. Stacey uses one of the oldest photographic techniques invented more than 1000 years ago, the camera obscura. She gives this technology a bold and surprising reinvention as her work turns entire rooms into the surface of a photograph, casting the view from the outside in. Her dreamlike works capture a moment in time, exploring both the history of the location and the personal stories of the subjects featured within these unique landscapes— offering an intimate and provocative look at our city. Discover the changing nature of Brisbane’s landscape through Robyn Stacey: Cloud Land.
