If you are sick of the usual RSL lunch or at-home family BBQ, and stuck for ideas about how to spend Father’s Day in Brisbane this year, we’ve got you covered. Here are our top 5 suggestions of cool activities to make Father’s Day that little bit extra special this year…

Brisbane Festival

Brisbane Festival kicks off on the Father’s Day weekend this year and finishes with a grand finale at Riverfire on Saturday 24 September. Made up of a fabulous program of music, dance, circus, theatre, opera and cool public events, Brisbane Festival attracts upwards of1 million people each year. Festive performances actually available on Father’s Day include the California Crooners Club and Josh Earl performing ‘My Family’s Weirder than YourFamily’  both at the Aurora Spiegeltent.

Steam Train Sunday at Roma Street Station

Located a short walk down the hill from Urban Brisbane , Roma Street Station is the interstate hub for Brisbane rail travel. From here you can take Dad for a ride on a historic steam train, and pretend you are living in the olden days with a vintage hoon around Brisbane’s city stations and river crossings for around an hour and a half. Family pass tickets are $81 for 2 adults and 2 kids under 15.

Ride Around The City

Brisbane City City Cycle allows anyone to hire a bike, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, which means you can take Dad on a private tour of everything fun in the river city. Why not make a day of it, start off with a hearty breakfast in West End, cruise through South Bank and along the Riverwalk back into the city. Plan your route in advance with their network map,and be sure to pre-subscribe online (from $2 per person per day) so it’s all smooth sailing on the big day.

Explore Australia Expo

If you Dad is an outdoors, travelling man, he’ll love the Explore Australia Expo. Held atDoomben Racecourse in Ascot over 3 days (2-4 September), this event is packed to the rafters with all sorts of inspirational stuff designed to get people out and exploring our rugged country. No doubt it will give Dad some seriously itchy feet! A family pass will set you back $40.

Frisbee Fun in the Park

Our absolute favourite is a straight up picnic in the park and a little bit of family Frisbee action on the grass in Roma Street Parklands. You can’t beat the classics right? Then why not head up the hill to Gazebo Restaurant and Bar, and shout him our Beer and BBQ Ribs Father’s Day special for just $25.

If you are looking to make a weekend out of it, stay at Urban Brisbane over the Father’s Day weekend of 3-4 September for just $145 per night twin share, including a Beer and BBQ ribs for Dad. To book email stay@hotelurbanbrisbane.com.au or call 07 3831 6177. T&Cs apply.
